Dominican National Sentenced In ID Theft Case

He has been removed three times from the U.S.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A Dominican Republic citizen was sentenced to two years in federal prison for identity theft.

Juan Torres Rodriguez posed as another person and went to the state DMV office in Wethersfield to exchange a Puerto Rican driver's license for a Connecticut issued one, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

Rodriguez also had a birth certificate and social security card in the name of the victim. A DMV employee recognized the bogus documents and confirmed the identity had been stolen. State Police arrested Torres Rodriguez.

Rodriguez previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated identity theft. He has been removed from the U.S. in 2001, 2013 and 2014.
