Obituary: Warren O. Roberts, 79, of Wethersfield
Warren, an avid boater and sports fan, was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge, Middletown Yacht Club and Farmington Chapter of Unico.
WETHERSFIELD, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home) Warren O. Roberts, 79, of Wethersfield passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
He was born on February 9, 1942 in Middletown, CT. He was the oldest son of Earl (Sonny) and Helen (Harty) Roberts. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1960. Upon his graduation Warren, worked in the aerospace and manufacturing industry.
He spent most of his professional career at Fenn Manufacturing in Newington and Purdy Corporation, Manchester, as a production engineer.
When he was promoted, he was the youngest supervisor in the company at that time. After his retirement, he chose to pursue a second career as a real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
Warren was an avid sports enthusiast. In high school he was the captain and quarterback of his football team. Throughout the years he loved to reminisce about the games he played in, remembering details of every play and whether his team won or lost.
As his son Todd was growing up, Warren coached his football and little league teams. He stayed active by playing in company softball and golf leagues.
Warren was a fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and the UConn Huskies girl’s basketball - many times while watching a game he would yell at the television when he didn’t approve of what had just happened.
Warren was also a World War II history buff. One of his favorite pastimes was watching movies and reading about the war.
Warren was a lifetime member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #771 and for many years belonged to the Farmington Chapter of Unico. He also belonged to the Middletown Yacht Club and enjoyed boating on the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound with his boat “Dbunker.”
He was an avid boater and truly enjoyed navigating trips to Block Island, Newport and Martha’s Vineyard.
Warren leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 35 years, Deborah (Calabrese) Roberts, his son, Todd Michael Roberts of Old Saybrook, his stepson Bryon Paul Westcott of Meriden, his cherished granddaughter Katharine Anne (Kate) Roberts of Old Saybrook, his sister Noreen (Phillip) Lundberg of Punta Gorda, FL his three brothers Richard (Laverne) Roberts of Punta Gorda, FL , Dennis (Maryann) Roberts of Middletown and John Roberts of New Britain, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews to whom he was fondly known as “Uncle”.
Warren is predeceased by his father, Earl (Sonny) Roberts, mother Helen (Harty) Woronik, and his step-son. Brett Michael Westcott.
Warren's strength and courage shone through in his battle with many serious medical issues over the last 15 years, He never complained but fought hard and stayed strong until the very end.
He will be honored in a Celebration of Life memorial service at on Saturday (June 5th) at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown.
Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Donations in Warren’s honor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
