State Investigating Wethersfield Officer-Involved Shooting
An April officer-involved shooting is under investigation.
WETHERSFIELD, CT — Connecticut State Police have released a statement regarding an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Wethersfield.
"On Saturday, April 20, 2019 Central District Major Crime Squad (CDMCS) Detectives were requested by the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office to investigate the officer involved shooting that occurred in Wethersfield," the statement read.
State police said their goal is to complete the investigation in a timely manner. The results will be submitted to the State Attorney's Office in the next two weeks.

Anthony Vega Cruz, 18, died in April after an officer-involved shooting.
Two Wethersfield officers attempted to stop a suspect in a motor vehicle around 6 p.m. April 20 on Silas Deane Highway, State Police said in a statement. Cruz attempted to flee the scene. His vehicle and Wethersfield police cruiser collided.

Officer Layau Eulizier Jr. fired his weapon after the vehicle drove toward him, according to State Police. Eulizier is on leave while the investigation continues.
The defense attorney for Cruz's family has characterized Eulizier as a "ticking time bomb" and protesters successfully lobbied for video of the incident to be released.
