Wethersfield Has A New Policy For Sidewalk Repairs
Rather than requiring complete replacement, the Town is allowing property owners to utilize slab-raising.
March 25, 2021
Property owners are reminded that per Town Ordinance Chapter 139 - Streets and Sidewalks, owners of land fronting upon any street are responsible to replace, repair or otherwise correct defects in any sidewalk adjacent to their property. When trip/fall hazards are present and concrete slabs are in good structural conditions, rather than requiring complete replacement, the Town will start allowing property owners to utilize slab-raising (a.k.a. slab-jacking) as a method of repair. This involves coring holes into and pumping grout beneath the slabs, which spreads to raise them to meet adjacent slabs and/or adjoining grade. This method is not applicable in all situations; however, when it is appropriate, the costs are approximately 60% less than traditional replacement.
