Wethersfield High School Teams Clinch State Tournament Berths

WETHERSFIELD, CT — The final week of regular season competition kicks off Monday for high school soccer, field hockey and volleyball teams, and Wethersfield is well-represented among those schools which have already clinched state tournament berths.

Five schools based in Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties have spots sewn up in all four sports, including both boys and girls soccer. Eight others, including Wethersfield, have three teams which have already qualified.

There are 72 spots already claimed by teams from the region, with eight schools having two qualifiers and a dozen schools represented by one team thus far.

Four teams from the area are currently ranked No. 1 in their respective class: Suffield field hockey (M), Granby field hockey (S), Ellington boys soccer (M) and SMSA girls volleyball (S).

A .400 winning percentage is required to qualify for the CIAC state tournaments. Note: football employs a different playoff system, while cross country and girls swimming championships are determined via class and state meets.
