Wethersfield Native Wins 9th Senatorial District GOP Endorsement

Rocky Hill CT---Small business owner and local volunteer Richie Ruglio won the endorsement of the Republican Party at tonight’s nominating convention by a vote of 20-8. Richie graciously accepted the party’s endorsement and thanked them for their overwhelming support.

In addition to thanking the delegates and his opponent on a hard-fought race, Ruglio had this to say: “I'm truly honored and humbled. I've lived in this district all my life. My connections to each town make this seat so special for me, and I will not let you down.”

Ruglio grew up in Wethersfield, raised his family and currently resides in Rocky Hill, attended Xavier High School in Middletown, and coached high school sports in Newington. This is his first run for political office.

Here are some quick facts to know about tonight’s convention:
• Ruglio won 4 of the 5 towns that encompass the 9th District
• Newington, the largest voting bloc, unanimously supported Ruglio
• Wethersfield also unanimously supported Ruglio
• Ruglio overwhelmingly won his hometown, winning all but one vote
• Eliminating both candidates’ hometowns, Ruglio won the delegate vote 14-1
• The Rocky Hill, Newington, and Wethersfield RTC Chairmen all voted for Ruglio
