Wethersfield Picks New Town Manager

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Wethersfield has named Gary Evans as the next town manager. He has 14 years of municipal government experience and is currently the grants administrator/deputy director for the City of New Britain. He also has worked in Norwich and Hartford.

Evans holds a Master's in Public Administration from Post University and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government from the University of Hartford. Evans was selected from four finalists who were invited to participate in various on-site sessions on December 18 and 19 which included a welcome breakfast, community tours, meeting with Town senior staff, a public Meet & Greet, followed by interviews with the Town Council. Evans currently resides in Wethersfield and is scheduled to assume his responsibilities as Town Manager on March 1st. Mr. Evan's stated: "I am excited to serve the community in which my family has lived for almost two decades. I look forward to joining the existing, talented staff and using my past experiences to continue the progress already happening in the Town."

Wethersfield Parks & Recreation Director Kathy Bagley has served as Interim Town Manager while the search progressed. The Town Council previously selected Strategic Government Resources (SGR), a local government executive search firm based in Keller, Texas, to conduct the nationwide Town Manager search. SGR's recruitment and vetting process produced an impressive field of highly qualified candidates comprised of 26 applications from individuals in 11 states, with nine of the applicants having City/Town Manager experience.
