2 Wilton Women Arrested for Creating, Filling Fake Prescriptions

WILTON, CT — Wilton Police Lt. Stephen Brennan said two Wilton women were arrested on Monday, November 14, 2016, after an investigation by members of the Wilton Police Department Detective Division, in conjunction with Weston Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration’sTactical Diversion Squad.

Janice Murphy was arrested on 16 counts of second degree forgery, 16 counts of illegally obtaining drugs by fraud and one count of criminal attempt/second degree forgery and second degree health insurance fraud. Jean Murphy-Sweeny of the same address as Janice Murphy, both of Powder Horn Hill Road, Wilton, was also arrested on three counts of second degree forgery, three counts of illegally obtaining drugs by fraud, one count of health insurance fraud and two counts of "doctor shopping."

Jean Murphy and Jean Murphy-Sweeny were arrested on State of Connecticut warrants, stemming from an investigation into the diversion of prescription pills within Fairfield County, Brennan said. Both are alleged to have been creating and filling fake prescriptions in the name of a child of one of the arrestees. Both are alleged to have been billing an insurance company for the prescriptions. Murphy-Sweeny is alleged to have also been obtaining prescriptions from two different doctors without each of the doctors’ knowledge, police said.

Each was given a $50,000 bond.
