Ambler Farm In Wilton Cancels Summer Camp

The summer camp is cancelled, but the farm remains open.

WILTON, CT — Ambler Farm announced it will not be hosting a summer camp for the 2020 season.

The "incredibly difficult " decision came following a "tremendous amount of research, thought and discussion," Program Director Kevin Meehan and Assistant Program Director Jennifer Grass said in a statement on the farm's website.

"The Summer Camp here at Ambler Farm is a cherished experience for our campers," Tim Burt, executive director, said. "We put a lot of effort into making this work, but we just felt that the safety of our kids and our community is our first responsibility. I want to thank our team for making this bold decision. I also want to let our camp families and community know that we will continue to develop programs this year that engage, excite, and entertain. We look forward to bringing Summer Camp back to Ambler Farm in 2021."

In their statement, Meehan and Page made a pitch for funds for the non-profit that would be lost with the revenue from the camp:

"As a non-profit, we rely heavily on the summer camp to help fund other family-friendly programs, to feed and care for our animals and to keep the farm moving forward. We are currently working to develop new, hands-on programs for families to experience the farm safely. Please consider donating a portion of your camp fees to Ambler Farm," the statement reads in part.

The summer camp is cancelled, but the farm remains open.

"Please know that we are working on unique and different ways for you to enjoy the farm. Of course, we are open every day for your family to enjoy a walk around the property, or to spend quality time with our animals," Meehan and Grass said.

Ambler Farm’s farm stand is also open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. through October.
