Wilton Mom Charged After Her 2-Year-Old Is Found Wandering Street

Police charged a Wilton mother with reckless endangerment after they found her 2-year-old child walking the streets unaccompanied.

WILTON. CT — Police charged a Wilton mother with reckless endangerment after they found her 2-year-old child walking the streets unaccompanied.

The child was reported to the Wilton Police Department around 4:47 Wednesday afternoon. The resident observed the child "barefoot, without a jacket" walking along New Street near the intersection with Danbury Road. The caller said she exited her home and carried the child back there, where she provided blankets, food, water, and contacted the police.

"The child was unable to communicate his name or his parents names to officers," according to Patrol Officer Brandon Harris. "Due to the lack of clothes on the child it was believed that he had exited a nearby residence."

The police contacted Georgetown EMS which dispatched a crew to the residence and provided the child with a medical evaluation.

Meanwhile, the child's father called the Wilton PD to report his son missing, and police learned the child's identity and address on a neighboring street.

Following further investigation at the residence, police say the mother, Chunli He, of Wilton, had left the child home alone in a play pen, with the front door of the home unlocked. The mom then walked 0.3 miles to go shopping, and came home to find the door wide open and the toddler missing. The mother contacted her husband, who placed the call in to the police.

Chunli He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor. She was released after meeting a $5,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear before Norwalk Superior Court on May 20.
