Codebug Launches New Summer Programs

Codebug, a premier coding school headquartered in Nashville, TN, is launching middle/high school summer coding programs in New Canaan starting in June. Co-led by New Canaan native & Vanderbilt alum, Sarah Betack, Codebug will be offering their programs at St. Luke’s School for all students in the surrounding area. Before launching Codebug, Sarah spent four years as a high school math teacher learning what it takes to get teenagers excited about math. She then turned her sights on software engineering, learned to code, and has spent the last couple of years as a professional software engineer before starting Codebug, “To me, it’s about inspiring the next generation of builders. I want to create a fun, but challenging environment where students leave our program feeling invigorated – knowing they have the tools to bring their ideas to life.” Her co-founder McArthur Gill, also a Vanderbilt alum, is a seasoned software engineer who, most recently, was the Director of Engineering at an AI-startup that built algorithms to determine which books and movies would be successful. The founders combined experience in both the classroom and professional software engineering world set them apart from other coding programs.
Codebug takes a fresh look at computer science, keeping it lively and collaborative. In one lesson, students program their mini self-driving cars to weave through an obstacle course, stop at stop signs, and snap selfies of their partner. According to Sarah, “Whenever we can, we take real-world examples and package them in interactive lessons so the students can start to build connections between what they’re learning and the real-world code they interact with every day.” Sarah’s unique perspective as both a teacher and a software engineer has strongly guided the Codebug curriculum, “Our lessons are rigorous and project-based. We work to simulate what it’s like to be a professional developer, both in the tools used and the way our lessons are presented.”
Whether your child is interested in learning how to code because they have an idea they want to build, believe coding projects will help their college resume, or are seeking another way to unleash their creativity, Codebug is the ideal environment to jumpstart their learning. Their summer offerings range from Web Development, where students build and deploy websites, to Python Fundamentals, where students hone their algorithmic problem-solving skills. Whether your child has never written a line of code or already understands the basics, Codebug’s programs will challenge your child and give them the tools to build their dreams. Space is limited, so make sure to reserve your spot!
