Former Toy Chest Employee Arrested for Burglarizing Store

The arrest occurred on Thursday, Dec. 13.

A Wilton man who used to work at the Toy Chest was arrested in connection to a burglary there last week.

Michael Spirer, 29, of Deacon’s Lane was arrested on Dec. 13 at 7:15 a.m. and charged with burglary in the second degree, larceny in the sixth degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, interfering with a police officer and refusal to get fingerprinted.

According to police, sometime earlier that day, forced entry was made into The Toy Chest on River Road. Police said a glass door was damaged, and a moneybag containing approximately $600 in cash was taken.

Information led police to determine an ex-employee as a suspect. Police then discovered Spirer was in the custody of Naugatuck Police, where he was held overnight on narcotics charges.

The moneybag was found in his possession, missing about $200.

He was taken in to custody, where he refused to cooperate with police.

Spirer was held on $25,000 and was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 14.
