Jazz Great Dave Brubeck's Wilton Home Is On The Market
Brubeck purchased the property in Wilton in 1961. Its design was inspired by a trip to Japan.
WILTON, CT — The former Wilton home of legendary jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck is up for sale.
Brubeck purchased the property in Wilton in 1961 and commissioned the home from architect Beverly David Thorne, mandating a design inspired by a recent trip to Japan, according to Variety. That inspiration can be seen in the property's moon gate, shoji sliding doors and garden with multiple fountains and bridges.
Brubeck and his wife, jazz lyricist Iola Whitlock, called Wilton their home the rest of their lives, and raised their six children here. The couple was married for 70 years. Dave died in 2012 and Iola in 2014, but their children have kept the house the way it was when their parents moved in, according to a 2019 feature in Town & Country magazine.
