Two Wilton Students Students Help New Canaan Country School Win Pop Warner Championship

From New Canaan Country School: Shane Baldwin of Darien and Austin Andersen of Wilton, ninth grade student athletes at New Canaan Country School, were key members of the New Fairfield Falcons u14 Pop Warner football team that won the Division III Unlimited Division national championship this past weekend with a 30-0 victory over the East Cleveland (OH) Chiefs at Ames Field in Michigan City, IN.
Andersen, who played linebacker and running back during the season, led the team in tackles and interceptions while scoring 11 touchdowns during a perfect 12-0 season which also included the Connecticut Pop Warner championship.
Baldwin, who played quarterback and safety, ran for three and threw for six touchdowns during the season, including a touchdown toss to Andersen in the national championship game. In the Fairchester League (an independent school consortium), Baldwin and Andersen were instrumental in delivering a 3-2-1 football season for Country School.

“Their talent, hard work, and sense of team make them exemplary players and respected leaders. It has been a pleasure to coach them on the field and to teach them in the classroom. They are terrific young men who possess both skill and strength of character,” said Grade 9 Teacher and Coach Tom Giggi.
