WILTON, CT — Steven M. Gorenbergh aged 68, of Wilton, passed away peacefully in his home on June, 16, 2021. He was born in Fall River, MA to F. David and Sydell (Herman) Gorenberg. Steven is survived by his loving wife of almost 44 years, Holly Beth Gorenbergh, and their daughter, Elizabeth Gorenbergh.

Steven graduated in 1974 from Syracuse University, where he met Holly. He later completed his MBA at New York University. Holly and Steven were married at SU’s Hendricks Chapel in 1977. Steven was an enthusiastic supporter of SU football, basketball, and the Alumni programs. The highlight of his following SU’s sports was their winning the 2003 NCAA championship. This high was matched only by the World Series win in 2004 by the Boston Red Sox, for Steven shared his mother’s love of the Red Sox.

Following the advice of a couple of his professors, Steven started his career in computer programming at AT&T in White Plains, NY. As he became more involved in systems integration and architecture, Steven worked for IBM for the majority of his career. He also worked at other companies such as UniSys, Intel, Oracle, and NY Life. His years before retirement were spent as an Enterprise Technology Systems Architect.

Steven had life-long interests in photography, trains, and cars. Trips to Canada and the UK gave him and Holly the opportunities to ride the Canadian Pacific Railroad through the Rockies, and British Rail through England and the Highlands of Scotland. Multiple rolls of film were shot and most of them developed.

The Gorenberghs moved to Wilton in 1982. With the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth, involvement with the library, schools, and Temple B’nai Chaim grew along with her. Field trips with Elizabeth’s Girl Scout troop convinced Steven that he should get involved with one of the Boy Scout troops in Wilton. As an Eagle Scout himself, he knew that the lessons and development provided by scouting gave boys and young men a strong start in life. Steven served as the Scoutmaster for Troop 125 for over 11 years, stepping down in 2015. In that time he saw almost 40 scouts attain the rank of Eagle. Even after stepping down, Steven continued to serve as a merit badge counselor and Eagle mentor, eventually returning to the troop as an assistant scout master.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Steven is survived by his brother Paul Gorenberg (Michelle), his sister Robin Gorenberg Bazabal (Juan), and his nephews Max and Jacob Gorenberg and David and Andres Bazabal. He was predeceased by his parents.

A private family service will be held on (Saturday, June 26th). In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven’s name may be made to Friends of Felines in Stamford, CT or Animals in Distress in Wilton, CT.
