Rye Brook Woman Arrested for Trying to Steal $400 Antique

Police news, March 19 through March 25.

A 50-year-old Rye Brook, N.Y. woman was charged with sixth-degree larceny after she allegedly tried to swipe a $400 bronze statue from Marvin Gardens. She was arrested on March 23 at 11:31 a.m.

According to police, Nikki Shapiro purchased items from the antiques store. When the owner was trying to help load items into the car, she saw the statue in the car. The owner then removed the statue and called police.

She was released on a promise to appear in court April 2.

On March 19, a Cablevision worker at a residence on Trails End Road reported to police a large German shepherd bit him on the arm, breaking the skin. The vet said the dog was up-to-date on his shots.

Police are investigating whether someone might have intentionally loosened lug nuts on a school bus.

According to police, a driver noticed the back left tire on the school bus was loose as he was making a left turn out of School Road onto Middlebrook Farm Road on March 25.

A mechanic arrived on the scene and determined lug nuts were missing. They were found in the road.

It’s unclear whether they were intentionally loosened, but police said possible charges should someone be found to have purposefully done that include criminal mischief and risk of injury to a minor.
