Stalker Charged With Firearms Possession: Wilton PD

Police detained two Norwalk men on reckless endangerment and weapons possession charges after responding to a report of gunshots.

WILTON, CT — Police detained two Norwalk men on reckless endangerment and weapons possession charges after responding to a report of gunshots shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday.

The 911 caller believed an ex-boyfriend, Ian Murray, 33, of Norwalk, was responsible for the shots, which originated outside the home. Police said that Murray "had been engaging in a course of conduct consistent with stalking."

In the driveway police said they found a vehicle belonging to the complainant "with damage consistent with a bullet hole."

Police searched the neighborhood and said they found a 1995 Chevy S10 pick-up truck traveling on an adjacent roadway with no tail lights. The officers stopped the truck, owned and driven by Christopher Smeriglio, 34, of Norwalk, and detained Murray, who was riding as a passenger.

Police conducted a search and found about four grams of marijuana on Murray, and "a revolver type firearm in the glove box," according to their report.

Murray was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, criminal use of a weapon, first- and third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal discharge of a firearm, failure to be fingerprinted/photographed and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana.

Smeriglio was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and improper rear marker lamps.

Murray and Smeriglio were taken into custody, and held on $250,000 and $50,000 bonds respectively. Both were arraigned on Jan. 7 at Stamford Superior Court.
