On Saturday, Dec. 28 Yaznic Mateos, 19, of Boulder Hill Rd in Ridgefield was driving north on Ridgefield Rd when she lost control of her vehicle, a 1998 Toyota Corolla, crossed into the southbound lanes and then went off the left side of the roadway, striking a traffic sign, six sections of split rail fencing and then a utility pole.Â
According to Wilton Police Capt. Lynch the accident was witnessed by Officer Baker who had been responding to an alarm on Kellogg Drive. Baker had been traveling southbound on Ridgefield Rd when Mateos, traveling northbound, appeared at a high rate of speed, suddenly skidding into Baker's lane. Mateos hit a DOT warning flasher sign before spinning around and hitting the fence post and phone pole.Â
According to the report Baker found Mateos was unresponsive with questionable breathing and she did not have a seatbelt on at that time. The driver's side of her car was crushed into the pole. Baker, who happens to also be a paramedic, gave Mateos oxygen and basic first aid.Â
According to Captain Lynch, Mateos said at the scene that she not remember anything about the accident, which took place at 2:30a.m. Police have not since been able to speak to Mateos, who is still at Norwalk Hospital.Â
The accident is pending further investigation.
