There's A Lot Less Red On The CT Coronavirus Red Zone Map
15 towns dropped out of red alert status this week, leaving 97 of 169 Connecticut towns still in the coronavirus red zone.

CONNECTICUT — The color has begun to bleed out of the state's weekly red zone map.
The number of communities falling within the state's red alert level for coronavirus infections has dropped below one hundred, falling by 15 towns this week, as more than two-thirds of the population has had at least one dose of the vaccine.
Towns fall into the red zone when average daily cases exceed 15 per 100,000 population over a two-week average. There are now 97 of 169 towns still in the red zone.

The color codes correspond to guidance from the state Department of Public Health about various activities.
Orange (10-14): Andover, Avon, Bolton, Burlington, Canterbury, Colchester, Columbia, Darien, East Hampton, Easton, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Groton, Hebron, Lebanon, Lisbon, Mansfield, Marlborough, Middlefield, New Hartford, Plainfield, Portland, Ridgefield, Simsbury, South Windsor, Tolland, Waterford, West Hartford, Westport, Windsor Locks and Woodbridge

Yellow (5-9): Brooklyn, Durham, East Granby, East Lyme, Essex, Ledyard, Montville, Newington, North Stonington, Old Lyme, Salem, Somers, Stafford, Stonington, Suffield, Vernon, Weston and Willington
Gray (less than five): Bozrah, Bridgewater, Canaan, Chaplin, Colebrook, Cornwall, Deep River, Franklin, Hampton, Hartland, Kent, Lyme, Norfolk, Pomfret, Salisbury, Scotland, Sharon, Sprague, Union, Voluntown, Warren and Washington
There were two COVID-19-associated deaths this past week in nursing homes. One a resident of Glastonbury Health Care Center, and the other in Northbridge Health Care in Bridgeport. There were no coronavirus fatalities in any of the state's assisted long-term care facilities.
The number of Connecticut students infected with the coronavirus fell 234 cases in the past week, to 508, a 31 percent drop. The number of infections among school district staff also fell, by 39 cases, to 43.
The number of schools with students attending in-person fell by 20 percent, to 336.
