Weir Farm in Wilton Offers Summer Programs

Guided tours, free-to-use art supplies, art classes, yoga, hiking, nature journaling and forest bathing are all on tap this summer at Weir.

WILTON, CT —Weir Farm offers guided tours, free-to-use art supplies, Junior Ranger activities, art classes, and more Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m .to 4 p.m.

All Park programs are free. Registration is now open for August programs, and there is still availability in some July programs, listed below.

Art in the Park Contest and Festival - August 25

On Sunday, August 25, Weir Farm NHS, Friends of Weir Farm, the Weir Farm Art Center, and G&B Cultural Center will host the park's third annual Art in the Park Contest and Festival from 10am to 4pm. Enjoy demonstrations, activity stations, free-to-use art supplies, refreshments, music, and more! Artists of all abilities are encouraged to submit a work of Weir Farm related art at the festival, or in advance during visitor center hours. Stay tuned for future eflyers with more details, and get ready to come create Art in the Park!

Junior Ranger Family Fun Days Hosted by Friends of Weir Farm

This season the Friends of Weir Farm are hosting family fun days on the third Saturday of each month. All activities are free and open to "kids" of all ages and will be held rain or shine. No registration required, just stop in any time from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday July 20th and again on Saturday August 17th for some family fun!

Impressionism in Connecticut Lecture with Dr. Leanne Zalewski

Dr. Leanne Zalewski is an Associate Professor of Art History at Central Connecticut State University, and will share her expertise from 10:00 to 11:00 am on August 3. Connecticut houses a treasure trove of French and American Impressionist paintings. This lively talk will walk you through Impressionist highlights in our state, with a special emphasis on Weir's works. Be dazzled by dappled sun, camaraderie, and natural beauties! Farming the Landscape Agriculture and Art Tour

Join a Park Ranger every other Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am for a guided tour that explores the agricultural history and landscape of Weir Farm. Upcoming program dates include July 19, Aug 2, Aug 16, and Aug 30. No registration required and dogs on leash are welcome!

Forest Bathing Wellness Walks

Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Jennifer Salkin, will be leading slow-paced Shinrin Yoku hikes on July 21 and August 31 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Shinrin Yoku, also called Forest Bathing, is a way to experience the natural world with attention to sense perceptions, and has many health benefits. Register now by calling 203-834-1896 x 28.

Coffee and Canvas

Register now for a guided painting class that features a new Weir Farm painting each month! Art Educator Whitney Hoffman will take you step by step to create an original painting. The program, including materials, is free, and coffee and tea are provided by the Friends of Weir Farm. Register now by calling 203-834-1896 x 28 and join us for a morning of creativity and fun over coffee in the Burlingham Barn art classroom! Class meets from 9 am to 12 pm August 14.

A Walk to Weir Pond Guided Tour

Park Ranger Amanda Lord will lead a one hour guided walk to Weir Pond and introduce you to Julian Alden Weir, a world-class artist who lived and worked here from 1882 to 1919. Join us August 4th from 10:00 to 11:00 am for a leisurely walk to explore the beautiful and historic meadows, forest, and pond that have inspired artists for over 135 years. Stone Wall Tours

One-hour tours are offered every other Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Join a Park Ranger on a ramble through the fields of Weir Farm National Historic Site to learn about the historic stone walls. Upcoming program dates include July 26, Aug 9, and Aug 23. No registration required and dogs on leash are welcome!

Hike and Write

Connect with the beauty of Weir Farm through your own outdoor writing experience. Join Whitney Hoffman for a guided hike to Weir Pond that includes nature journaling and sketching on Saturday August 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Journals and sketching supplies provided! Yoga in the Garden

Yoga in the Garden is offered every Friday from 5:30 to 6:30, through September, as part of the park's Healthy Parks Healthy People program. Unwind, renew, and reconnect to nature in the beauty and serenity of Weir Farm National Historic Site’s stunning gardens with instructor Suzan Converse. No registration required! Just bring your yoga mat and water bottle!

Watercolor and Landscape Painting Instruction

Want a little help creating a masterpiece? Weir Farm Art Instructor Bobbi Eike Mullen provides informal instruction on painting with watercolors and landscape painting as part of our Take Part in Art program. Stop by and ask Bobbi for some pro tips on July 28, Aug 11, or Aug 18 anytime between 1:00 to 4:00 pm, and remember free-to-use supplies are always available during visitor center hours!
