Wilton Fire Department Names New Deputy Fire Chief
The Wilton Fire Commission has announced the hiring of John Plofkin as Wilton's new deputy fire chief, effective Feb. 1.
WILTON, CT — The Wilton Fire Commission has announced the hiring of John Plofkin, formerly of the Westport Fire Department, as Wilton’s new deputy fire chief, effective Feb. 1.
Prior to his retirement, Plofkin was an assistant chief with Westport having served there from 1995-2017. In the past he held a position in Trumbull as chief of the Nichols Fire Department, serving that department since 1980, and has worked in the fire equipment industry, most recently with Shipman’s Fire Equipment.
Commission Chairperson Casey Healy joined with fire commission members Terrie Schwartz and John Hall in congratulating Deputy Chief Plofkin, saying "we are confident John brings a wealth of experience to the department and we wish him well in his new role."

Plofkin holds numerous state and fire certifications and is a lead instructor with the Fairfield Regional Fire School in its vehicle extrication programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Connecticut State University in Business Administration.
Wilton Fire Chief Jim Blanchfield said, "We look forward to working with Deputy Chief Plofkin and all that he brings to our department. I have known John for almost twenty years. He is well respected in the fire service community. I believe he has the right combination of experience, skills and knowledge to effectively serve the Wilton community."

Plofkin lives in Trumbull with his wife Cheryl.
