On Saturday at around 6 a.m., an officer observed a 2014 Honda CR-V traveling at speeds as low as 15 mph in a designated 40 mph zone crossing over the double yellow and white fog lines multiple times. The police pulled the motorist over near the intersection of Danbury Road and New Street.
In his report, the officer said the driver, Terrance Burden, 39, of 1273 Nicholas Avenue in Stratford, was "slurring his speech, unable to answer simple questions, and at times was incoherent" when pulled over. Burden failed a standardized field sobriety test, and "throughout the test he was swaying on his feet, unable to follow directions, and slurred his speech heavily," according to police.
A breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.00. Police then asked Burden to submit to a urine test, and he refused, according to the report.
Further investigation revealed Burden was carrying 4.5 grams of marijuana in his pockets, police said.
While Burden was in their custody, police learned that he had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. Police served him the warrant, and Burden was able to make contact with a bail agent to post the $25,000 bond.
The new charges against Burden were DUI, possession of less than 0.5 ounces of marijuana, and failure to maintain proper lane.
Burden was issued a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear before Superior Court in New London on Aug. 31.
