Wilton Police Charge Hamden Man In $35K Forgery Scam

A man fraudulently opened up credit card accounts with Home Depot, Ikea, and Lord and Taylor and charged over $35,000, according to police.

WILTON, CT — Police have charged a Hamden man with 14 counts of forgery following a nine-month investigation.

In February 2020 a Wilton resident reported that their personal identifying information was used to open up credit card accounts with Home Depot, Ikea, and Lord and Taylor. Those accounts were later used at various store locations in Connecticut and New Jersey, debiting around $35,886 in fraudulent purchases, according to the Wilton Police Department.

Following an investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Bradley Badia, 36, of Beechwood Avenue in Hamden.

On Nov. 5, police took Badia into their custody and charged him with 13 counts of third-degree forgery, forgery of symbols, and first-degree identity theft. He is scheduled to appear before Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 5.
