Wilton Police Charge New York Man With Identity Theft

Wilton police have charged a Long Island man with identity theft following an investigation of over a year.

WILTON, CT — Police have charged a Long Island man with identity theft following an investigation of over a year.

The investigation followed a complaint filed with the Wilton Police Department in January 2020 by a town resident who claimed fraudulent credit accounts had been opened in his name. The man was receiving numerous bills from credit cards for which he had never applied, and had also noticed multiple suspicious inquiries made on his credit report.

Police learned that the complainant's personal data had been duplicated on numerous fake Connecticut driver's licenses, and was also being used to make purchases, and open credit cards and other accounts.

On April 7, police picked up Wesley Andrews, 32, of Freeport, NY, from Nassau County Corrections after he waived extradition. He was charged with two counts of second-degree identity theft, one count of third-degree identity theft, and seven counts of third-degree criminal attempt to commit identity theft.

Andrews was released on a $250,000 bond.
