Aerospace Teams Clinch State Tournament Berths

WINDSOR, CT — The final week of regular season competition kicks off Monday for high school soccer, field hockey and volleyball teams, and the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering is among those schools which have teams that have already clinched state tournament berths.

Five schools based in Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties have spots sewn up in all four sports, including both boys and girls soccer. Eight others have three teams which have already qualified, while eight more, including Aerospace, have had two teams qualify thus far.

There are 72 spots already claimed by teams from the region. Four teams from the area are currently ranked No. 1 in their respective class: Suffield field hockey (M), Granby field hockey (S), Ellington boys soccer (M) and SMSA girls volleyball (S).

A .400 winning percentage is required to qualify for the CIAC state tournaments. Note: football employs a different playoff system, while cross country and girls swimming championships are determined via class and state meets.
