WINDSOR, CT — Amazon is further beefing up its presence in Connecticut after signing a lease for a 169,500-square-foot facility in Windsor.

The plans by Amazon Logistics to put a delivery station at 100 Helmsford Way in Windsor were announced Thursday. The goal is to have the facility, already designed for a logistics and distribution center, live in the first half of 2021.

Delivery stations "power the last mile of our order fulfillment process," Amazon officials said. Packages are transported to the delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment centers and are sorted and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers, Amazon officials said.

"Amazon prioritizes the safety and health of its employees and has invested millions of dollars to provide a safe workplace," company officials said.

Amazon has more than 150 delivery stations in the United States.

"We are excited to continue to invest in the state of Connecticut with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create hundreds of job opportunities for the talented local workforce," Amazon spokeswoman Emily Hawkins said.

Since 2010, Amazon said it has created more than 8,500 jobs in Connecticut and invested more than $2.1 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. That has contributed an additional $1.7 billion to the Connecticut economy and helped create 4,400 indirect jobs on top of Amazon's direct hires — from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services, the company said.

"In addition, more than 17,500 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Connecticut are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state," Amazon officials said.

The building also comes with a 30,300-square-foot office complex and 17.42 acres of land, according to the listing at Winstanley Enterprises.

Several other international company have distribution centers in the area.
