CT Water Start $650K Water Main Replacement Project

The project will improve reliability of water service and enhance water quality at will begin at the intersection of Thompson Rd.

From CT Water:Connecticut Water today announced that a $650,000 water main replacement project will begin on South Main Street (Route 5) in East Windsor on May 31st to replace 5,000 feet, or nearly one-half mile, of 60 year old water main. The project will begin at the intersection of Thompson Road.

“This project will improve reliability of water service, enhance water quality and supply more water to hydrants along the road,” stated Craig J. Patla, Connecticut Water’s vice president - service delivery. Mr. Patla added that the project is being done through the company’s Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) program. Through WICA, the company may charge customers a small surcharge on their bills for projects to invest in replacing aging water mains or for conservation related projects.

Since the inception of the WICA program in 2007, Connecticut Water has invested more than $122 million and replaced more than 106 miles of water main with an average age of 76 years. Connecticut Water owns 1,600 miles of water main across the state.

The East Windsor project extends along Route 5 (South Main Street) between Thompson and Tromley roads. Work hours will 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, as directed by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. East Windsor police will on site for traffic control. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.

Customers who will have their water service impacted by the project will be contacted directly by Connecticut Water. The company provides advance notice before planned water service interruptions.
