Police are investigating after a Windsor woman reported she was scammed by people claiming to be Eversource.

WINDSOR, CT — A Windsor woman was scammed out of more than $1,000 by criminals pretending to be Eversource officials, WFSB-3 TV reported. Kathleen Jennings, a retired senior, said she received a voicemail from a person claiming to be Eversource and asking her to call a number to settle a $700 balance.

When she called, the person told her that she had 40 minutes to make the payment or her service would be shut off. She was told to go to a nearby grocery store and pay her bill with CashPak gift cards, WFSB-3 TV reported. She did so and was later scammed out of another $500.

Windsor police are investigating.
