Readers' Choice Results: Favorite Beach

It may be a bit of hike compared to Crystal Lake or the East Windsor Park, but readers chose in Madison and Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic as their favorite beach destinations in the state.

Hammonasset has two miles of beautiful shoreline open to the public, as well as a boardwalk, nature trails and picnic areas. Once visitors have gotten their fill of the sun, they can also head to the nearby Madison town center for great dining and shopping options.

A bit further east along the shoreline, Rocky Neck's sandy white and stone-free beach makes it a great place to drop your chair and pickup your book. In addition to the East Lyme state beach, there are plenty of picnic tables, a campground and lots of hiking trails if you get a bit antsy from sitting on the beach.

The local beaches at the was the only location in the immediate area to get a nod as a good place to take to cool off on a warm day.
