Windsor Man Facing Charges After Incident at East Windsor Middle School

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a burglary alarm at the school.

An 18-year-old Windsor man is facing charges after the East Windsor Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at East Windsor Middle School.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Friday, officers responded and when they arrived arrived, they heard voices and footsteps inside the school.

A short time later, they observed three males, two running and one on a bicycle, heading west toward the woods. Officers gave chase and one suspect Caleb Newburry, of 126 Portman St., was apprehended in the woods.

The Connecticut State Police responded with a K9 in an attempt to track the additional suspects, but a track was unsuccessful.

An investigation revealed the suspects had climbed onto the school’s roof and threw 27 metal drain covers off of it and onto the ground - which damaged them. The suspects then gained access to the school’s interior where they also damaged equipment.

Newburry was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal trespass. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18.
