HARTFORD, CT — Police have identified the man killed in a Hartford officer-involved shooting July 26 as Alphonso Zaporta, 41, of Windsor. Hartford Detective Zack Sherry, a 14-year veteran, was identified as the officer who fired shots and is on paid administrative leave per department policy. Body camera footage may be released to the public as early as Monday.

State Police are investigating the incident and have obtained the body camera footage from three officers. Hartford officers tried to pull a vehicle over near Park Terrace and the vehicle fled. Officers pursued the vehicle to the Capitol Avenue on-ramp of I-84 westbound where it got caught up in construction traffic, State Police said. Officers deployed stop sticks and approached the vehicle on foot.

The passenger in the vehicle exited and surrendered, but Zaporta began to fight with officers and managed to get ahold of an officer's firearm, according to State Police. Sherry then fired shots at Zaporta.
