Windsor Obituary: Donald Higgins, 81

Donald J. Higgins, 81, of Windsor, loving husband to Olga (Taricani) Higgins, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Hartford, the son of the late Patrick J and Mary Catherine (Kelly) Higgins, he grew up and lived in Hartford and West Hartford. He and Olga moved to the Poquonock section of Windsor in 1963.

Don was a member of the Hartford Police Department retiring in 1988 as Deputy Chief.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Jane Graml, his brother in law, Norman Hausmann, his children, Patrick Higgins and his wife Barbara of Windsor, Rosie Courtney of Poquonock, Sean Higgins and his wife Susan of Huntsville, AL, Dana Fawcett and her husband Jim of Parkersburg, WV, and Diane Higgins of Poquonock; his grandchildren, Jimmy (Christy) Fawcett and Steven (Phuong) Fawcett, Patrick Higgins, Emma Higgins McGlynn (Jonathan) and Katherine and Haley Higgins, Sean, Brendan, and Keleigh Courtney, Seamus, Donal, and Eamon Higgins, three great grandchildren, James and Caelyn Fawcett and Nora McGlynn; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Katherine (Patsy) Higgins, John (Jack) Higgins, and Mary Hausmann.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25 from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave Windsor followed by a 11:30 AM Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave Windsor. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
