
William (Bill) Winfred Lindsay, 87, died at his home in Windsor on April 29 after a year-long illness. He was the son of Winfred and Margaret (Jacques) Lindsay.
Bill was born on August 19, 1930 in West Springfield, MA, and grew up in Millbury, MA. In the summer of 1948 he met his childhood sweetheart, and the love of his life, Kathleen (Kathy) Yonker. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland, MA on September 12, 1953. They spent nearly 70 years together.
Bill was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Navy, ending as an electrician’s mate first class. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Mindoro aircraft carrier. After that, he attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA.

Throughout his life, Bill, along with Kathy, called several places home, including Norfolk, VA, Atlanta, GA, Worcester, MA, East Granby, Kensington, and Windsor. Bill’s career spanned 35 years, first at Kaman Aerospace in Bloomfield as a supervisor of maintenance from 1962 to 1979, then at New Britain Machine in New Britain as a plant engineer from 1979 to 1995.
Throughout his life, Bill was the ultimate handyman and enjoyed fixing things. It’s a skill he passed along to his sons. He was an avid gardener who loved working in the yard and seeing all of his plants grow.

After retiring, Bill spent several years traveling all over the world with Kathy, going on an African safari, and visiting Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, taking pictures everywhere they went. More than anything else in the world Bill loved his wife, Kathy. He also loved being outdoors. Spring was his favorite season with all of the blooming flowers and plants.
Over his lifetime he maintained a close circle of friends, and enjoyed eating dinner with them, especially if lobster was involved. He enjoyed the bustle of activity when all of his kids and their families came to visit. Bill loved to laugh and kept his sense of humor until the very end.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years and his true happiness, Kathy, and five children. Sons: Michael (Pam Hastings) of West Suffield, David (Freddi) of Middlefield. Daughters Tricia Lindsay (Jonathan DeGray) of Park City, UT, Kathy Ann Borson (Niklas) of Whidbey Island, WA, and Lisa Marquardt (Daryl) of Sun Prairie, WI. Nine grandchildren: Lea and Matthew Lindsay, Samantha Garesio (Ryan), Taylor Wilson, Parker (Fiancé Laurie Verrault-Beauchine) and Evan DeGray, Benjamin Borson, Drew and Ian Marquardt, and a great grandchild, Jameson Garesio.Bill also has three surviving siblings: Patricia Gemme of Millbury, MA, Dorothy Potvin of Mission Viejo, CA, and R. John Lindsay of North Brookfield, MA, and sister-in-law, Helen Viner, of Rutland, MA. He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Viner, and Arthur Gemme.
Calling hours will be on Monday, May 7 from 9:30 am to 11:15 am at Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, followed by a mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and burial at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Windsor.
The family wishes to thank all of Bill’s wonderful doctors and nurses who cared for him over the past year, as well as, Hartford Healthcare Hospice.
