The woman, Jane Doe, came to the front desk with a man and asked the clerk to make her a new key card because she had lost hers. The suit alleges that after the clerk made the new key card, the motel bartender told her she was concerned about the woman and asked the clerk to check on her.

The clerk found the woman with former Connecticut state trooper Jeffrey LaPorto, of Windsor, on the wrong floor of the motel. The clerk then allegedly led the woman, and LaPorto, back to her room.
The complaint states that by handing LaPorto a key to the woman’s room, leading them there, and not checking on the woman afterward, the clerk “created or increased the risk that LaPorto would rape Doe.”
