Armed Robbery Suspect Quickly Caught In East Windsor

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A suspect in an armed robbery at an East Windsor sandwich shop Friday night was taken into custody shortly thereafter at a nearby hotel, police said.

Gerald Kemler of Hartford was charged with second-degree robbery and interfering with an officer. He was held on $10,000 surety bond, Det. Sgt. Matthew Carl said.

The robbery took place around 9:21 p.m. at the Subway shop in Sofia's Plaza, with the bandit escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. With the assistance of Windsor Locks police, the suspect, later identified as Kemler, was tracked to the Rodeway Inn, less than a half-mile away on Bridge Street, Carl said.

At the time of the call, police were told a weapon had been shown during the robbery; however, no weapon was recovered during the course of Kemler's arrest, Carl said.

No injuries were reported, according to Carl.
