MA Police Officer Killed In I-91 Motorcycle Crash In Connecticut

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A Massachusetts police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 91 in East Windsor Tuesday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.

Chicopee Officer Angela Santiago was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson XL883 in the southbound left lane just south of the Exit 44 onramp when she lost control of the motorcycle and struck the median barrier, according to a state police report. She was thrown from the bike and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

The highway was closed for several hours between Exits 44 and 42.

Santiago, a Springfield resident who turned 33 on June 2, worked as the Chicopee High School resource officer and was a member of the department since 2014, Western Mass News reported. She served in the U.S. Army for eight years.

Santiago was not on duty at the time of the crash.

Police Chief William Jebb, according to Western Mass News, led a moment of silence on behalf of Santiago and said it's "with a heavy heart that I stand before you after just learning that one of my officers was just killed in a motorcycle accident."

The cause of the accident is under investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone with a dash camera who may have been traveling through the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact Trooper John Wilson at Troop H at 860-534-1098 or at john.wilson@ct.gov.
