Guilty Plea Entered In Windsor Locks Bank Robbery Case
A convicted felon who served 17 years in prison for prior robberies pleaded guilty to participating in a holdup at a Windsor Locks bank.
WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A convicted bank robber who spent more than 17 years in prison pleaded guilty Friday to two more counts of bank robbery, stemming from holdups in East Haven last fall and Windsor Locks in January.
Gary W. Bornman, 58, of New Haven, waived his right to be indicted, and admitted he violated the conditions of his supervised release from a prior federal case. The court proceeding occurred via videoconference, according to John H. Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on Jan. 27, 2020, Bornman drove a male accomplice to the People's United Bank at Dexter Plaza in Windsor Locks. While Bornman waited outside, his accomplice entered the bank, approached a teller and showed a note demanding money. The teller handed over about $1,056. Bornman's car was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business, Durham said.

Bornman also pleaded guilty to an October 2019 robbery at a Citizens Bank in East Haven, which was carried out by a female accomplice. He has been detained since Feb. 12, 2020, when he was arrested for violating his supervised release, Durham said.
In June 2001, Bornman was sentenced in Hartford federal court to 235 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for bank robbery and firearm possession offenses. He was released from prison in October 2018, Durham said.

Bornman is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 27 by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny, at which time he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years on the bank robbery offenses, and additional penalties for violating the conditions of his supervised release, according to Durham.
