Man Sentenced To Prison For Role In Windsor Locks Bank Robbery
The man was on supervised release after serving 17 years in prison for prior bank robberies at the time of the Jan. 2020 holdup.
WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A convicted bank robber from New Haven who spent more than 17 years in prison was sentenced Tuesday to six years of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for committing two bank robberies, including one in Windsor Locks, while on federal supervised release.
Gary W. Bornman, 59, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny via videoconference pursuant to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, according to Leonard C. Boyle, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on Oct. 29, 2019, Bornman drove a female accomplice to the Citizens Bank in East Haven. While Bornman waited outside, the woman entered the bank wearing a disguise and a red wig, approached a teller and demanded money. The teller handed over about $1,003, Boyle said.

On Jan. 27, 2020, Bornman drove a male accomplice to the People’s United Bank in Dexter Plaza in Windsor Locks. While Bornman waited outside, the man entered the bank, approached a teller and showed a note demanding money. The teller handed over about $1,056, and as the suspects fled, Bornman’s car was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business, Boyle said.
Bornman has been detained since Feb. 12, 2020. On July 31, 2020, he pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery, according to Boyle.

Chatigny sentenced Bornman to 60 months of imprisonment for the bank robbery offenses, and a consecutive 18 months of imprisonment for violating his conditions of supervised release, Boyle said.
In June 2001, Bornman was sentenced in Hartford federal court to 235 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for bank robbery and firearm possession offenses. He was released from prison in Oct. 2018, and was on supervised release when he committed the East Haven and Windsor Locks bank robberies, Boyle said.
