WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Windsor Locks officials erroneously reported Sunday that a newborn contracted the new coronavirus. The person is actually between the ages of 70 and 79, according to First Selectman Chris Kervick.

"The person was not a newborn infant as originally reported," Kervick said in a statement Tuesday. "The original report was the result of an error in the Connecticut Department of Public Health database."

Kervick said there are now 10 coronavirus cases in town.

"We have entered a period of sustained community transmission of COVID-19," he said. "It would be unreasonable to assume that (ten) people are the only persons afflicted with COVID-19 in town."

One of the individuals is between the ages of 20 and 29 and another is between the ages of 40 and 49.

"Windsor Locks citizens are asked to do all they can to help prevent the spread of COVID-19," Kervick said. "According to the health department, we have entered a period of widespread community transmission, which means that we should assume that the virus has infected many people within our community."

"Responsible citizenship requires that we take the needed steps to limit the spread of COVID-19," Kervick said. "Even if in an age group that has not experienced a high percentage of illness or death, reckless behavior can lead to further transmission of the virus and the illness or death of others. We are all in this together."
