Picture East Windsor - Then And Now
An old photograph and brief story from East Windsor's past, and how that site appears today.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Today's edition of this periodic informal history series, highlighting buildings from East Windsor's past and what those locations look like today, brings us back to a great picture book called Images of America: East Windsor. Released in 2017, the book was compiled by Ceil Donahue and Jessica Bottomley for the East Windsor Historical Society.
On page 100, we find an 1800s look at students at the Melrose School at 195 Melrose Rd. (Route 140 today). Built around 1850, at a time when the town organized its schools into twelve districts, the Melrose School was in District Seven. It remained in use as a school until 1938, when it closed following damage from a hurricane, and the Melrose Library was also located here from its founding in the 1930s until its closure in 1950.
The building was later used by local community groups as a meeting place, and eventually was restored by the Melrose School Restoration Committee.
