Power Outages Affected Many In North-Central Connecticut [UPDATE]
Thousands of customers in Hartford and Tolland counties were affected by power outages Sunday night into Monday.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — Power outages affected more than 16,000 Eversource Energy customers in Connecticut Monday morning, with a number of towns in Hartford and Tolland counties being hit.
As of 10 a.m., Tolland had 507 customers without power, or 8.25 percent. Other hard-hit Tolland County communities are Stafford (385 customers), Vernon (104) and Ellington (89).
In Hartford County, Avon had 314 outages, East Windsor had 234, Suffield had 190 and Glastonbury had 134. A drive through East Windsor revealed power lines on the ground on Scantic Road near the First Congregational Church, with Eversource crews working on a broken utility pole.

UPDATE:By day's end, more than 3,400 customers were still without power, all in Fairfield County.
Eversource spokesman Frank Poirot told Patch, "Sunday’s intense storm brought a combination of heavy rain saturating the ground and high winds that hit the state, causing trees already weakened by the prolonged drought to come down, taking power lines with them and leaving thousands of our customers without power."
