“Following numerous reports that Netflix and the BBC were parting ways, the streaming service has clarified that many of its most popular Brit series are staying put,” the entertainment industry publication reported late Friday.

So, in classic Variety headline style (which Variety didn’t use here): Netflix Sticks to Brit Mix: Won’t Nix Most BBC Shows, Flicks.

The actual headline points to negotiations to keep the series: Netflix Renews Deal for ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Luther,’ More BBC Series.

(Plenty of other programs are still reported to be leaving Netflix in early February, for the revised list, see below. Netflix itself apparently doesn’t release lists.)

Patch cited one of the numerous reports, from the Best of Netflix blog. Best of Netflix also blogged on Jan. 9 that while Netflix announced on its website that Dr. Who was about to expire, the video service company was in negotiation with the BBC to retain the classic science fiction series.

“[A] source close to Netflix has told me that Netflix is in fact in talks with BBC [...],” the Best of Netflix blogger wrote. “The contract negotiation is likely to be a ‘BBC package’ renewal, so for fans of less popular BBC shows, the odds are fairly good that your shows will return as well.”

So, whether you believe the report that Netflix “clarified” what shows are staying or going, or “Best of Netflix,” which cited Netflix’s own website for early reports that at least one of the programs, ”Dr. Who” would expire and that the matter was in last-minute negotiations, a slew of BBC programming is staying on the online network. According to Variety.

Variety also reports that these BBC television shows are still set to be deported from Netflix come Feb. 1: “Fawlty Towers,” “Blackadder,” “MI-5″ and “Red Dwarf”.
