Windsor Locks/East Windsor College Students Achieve Great Feats
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, some local college students have continued to shine in their academic ventures.
WINDSOR LOCKS/EAST WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.
Assumption University, Worcester MA
- Assumption University has announced that Catherine Hurlburt, of East Windsor, has been awarded a prestigious Light the Way Scholarship, awarded to a select number of first-year students who demonstrate leadership, a commitment to service, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in their communities and the world. Hurlburt, Class of 2024, was recognized for her commitment to community service. Catherine has helped her community by making bracelets to raise money for charity, serving food at the local soup kitchen, sharing her faith as a CCD teacher, and participating in Unified Volleyball and spending time with kids with intellectual disabilities after school. She also has spent the last few years mentoring a young girl with Cerebral Palsy in dance.
Bryant University, Smithfield RI

- Bryant University President Ross Gittell, Ph.D., is very proud to announce the 2020-21 members of the University's Bryant Senior Advisory Council (BSAC). In a year like no other, this distinguished group of students representing the Class of 2021, including Andre Brackett of East Windsor, will meet monthly with the President and members of his Cabinet to reflect and learn together during these unprecedented times for Bryant and for all of higher education. The students will gain significant professional experience and exposure, and a deeper knowledge of their University, and the leadership team will benefit through this substantive forum by hearing the perspectives of those who, in many respects, know Bryant best.
Clarkson University, Potsdam NY
- Sean Michael Donahue of Windsor Locks, a freshman majoring in business studies, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2020 semester at Clarkson University. Dean's List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.
Lasell University, Newton MA

- Lasell University's annual Take Back the Night event, an evening of recognition of survivors of domestic and sexual violence, took place this year in a hybrid format. Students in Karin Raye's criminal justice course on domestic violence planned and executed the first flex event. Alexys Suojanen, a resident of Windsor Locks, was one of the student organizers. Outside of the University's Science and Technology Center (STC), a display of illuminated lanterns hung with messages of support and empowerment from survivors and members of the greater Lasell community.
