WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A 19-year-old local man was charged Monday in connection with a weekend gunfire incident at the Holiday Inn Express on Spring St.

Kyle Cianfarani was charged with illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace. He was held on a $50,000 court-set bond, and is slated to be arraigned Tuesday in Hartford Superior Court.

Windsor Locks police responded to the hotel Sunday to investigate a complaint regarding an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot which appeared to have been struck by gunfire. Officers located an SUV in the parking lot which appeared to have two bullet holes, and also found two spent shell casings near the damaged vehicle, Lt. Paul Cherniack said.

Through a combination of interviews and video surveillance, officers determined the incident occurred Saturday around 10 p.m., Cherniack said.

Police located a vehicle on Elm St. which had been involved in the incident, and also learned of a second location in Windsor Locks where the same suspect had discharged a firearm following a disturbance. The homeowner at the second location had been shot in the hand, but officers determined his injury was a result of a struggle over the firearm, Cherniack said.

An investigation determined Cianfarani was a suspect, and police began searching for a blue 2003 Dodge Dakota which he had last been seen operating. A short time later, police located the SUV in the driveway of a house on Andover St., and also seized a 9mm bullet found in the driveway by the vehicle, Cherniack said.

Windsor Locks detectives obtained an arrest warrant and located Cianfarani at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident, the lieutenant said.
