2 Teens Die, Several Injured In Torrington Crash: UPDATE

Two 16-year-olds died in a fiery crash early Tuesday morning.

TORRINGTON, CT — A Connecticut community and beyond is mourning the death of two teens after a fiery crash occurred in the early morning hours Tuesday, according to reports including NBC Connecticut.

Two 16-year-old Litchfield High School students were killed in the 2:30 a.m. single car accident while three other Litchfield High students were seriously injured. The injured students are between the ages of 14 and 16 and are currently hospitalized.

The accident was reported on Town Farm Road and when emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found a car fully engulfed in flames off Rossi Road. The vehicle appears to have left the road, gone down an embankment, and hit a tree, according to NBC CT. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The teens killed have been identified as Matthew Rousseau, of Northfield and Thomas Graveline, of Litchfield, Fox 61 reports.

One of the teens friend's Ulises Do Carmo, 14, told WTNH News 8 that “We’re all just feeling really sad, just mourning everybody ... You don’t know how to feel when something like this happens.”

Litchfield Public Schools Superintendent of Schools Chris Leone said, "As our community continues to cope with loss and tragedy, we wanted to make you aware of counseling for our students that will begin today."

"From 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., school and agency-based counseling staff will be available at the Litchfield High School Gymnasium for student and staff support. Our thanks to the mental health professionals at Greenwoods and Wellmore for their assistance to the district. Supports will be available tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Litchfield High School gymnasium, as well.

"For those who wish to seek counseling in a virtual setting, LPS support staff can be reached at the contact numbers listed below until 8:00 p.m. this evening....Most importantly, if your child is in crisis or is experiencing an emergency, please call Mobile Crisis Services at 211-1-1. Please note that all district events scheduled for June 9 through June 11, inclusive of the LPS Board of Education meetings, are being postponed," school officials said.
