53 Cats Removed From Wolcott Home

Police plan to file animal cruelty charges after 53 cats were found at a Wolcott home. Twelve of the cats were dead.

WOLCOTT, CT — Police are planning to file animal cruelty charges after the removal of 53 cats from a Spring Road home in Wolcott on Saturday, according to The Hartford Courant. Twelve the cats found were dead.

Emergency responders were initially called to the house for a medical emergency around 11 a.m. The woman died before she could be taken to the hospital, The Hartford Courant reported. Her death was not considered suspicious.

She lived in the home with her husband and her adult niece. The home was in complete disarray and had a horrible stench, according to NBC CT. The home has been condemned.

Animal control officials said the cats were in poor condition and suffering from a range of medical issues including ear infections, eye infections, ear mites, and upper respiratory problems, NBC CT reported.
