Become a forest detective
New four week program offered by Flanders Nature Center on Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust will host a four week course on becoming a “Forest Detective”. The program will be based on the Book and techniques of Tom Wessels entitled, “Reading the Forested Landscape”. The classes will be led by Kyle Turoczi, co-owner of Earth Tones: Native Plant Nursery and Landscapes, in Woodbury CT. Kyle holds a Master of Science degree from Antioch University in Resource Management and Conservation and studied with Tom Wessels.
Through four two hour Saturday morning hikes to regional locales the group will investigate the forested landscape in the different areas that offer clues to why the landscape is as it is, what preceded its changes and what the future might hold. Come learn about the effects on the landscape that hurricanes, mining, farming and fires have had. Participants will be taught to inspect the forest from a forensic perspective and how to develop inquisitive skills to determine the causes of the effects they observe.
The program will begin Saturday, October 8th, and continues October 15, 22 and 29.The first Class will meet at 10AM at the Flanders Studio located at 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury.
