Black Bear Spotted in Woodbury

Woodbury, CT - A black bear reportedly was spotted in a tree in the North Green off Route 6 in Woodbury Wednesday morning before it ran off into the woods.

Several onlookers and town emergency personnel watched the bear for about an hour, and police said it may have weighed as much as 285 pounds, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.

The bear did not come close to any of the people in the area before leaving.

Black bear sightings have risen to more than 4,000 in Connecticut in the past year, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
