Brass City Ballet Provides Outdoor Venue For Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, CT —Brass City Ballet (BCB), a non profit dance organization located in Middlebury, CT, recently completed building an outdoor stage in Schoolhouse Park in Middlebury. Brass City Ballet’s end of year event, Season Finale, which takes place Sunday, June 6, at 4:00 pm, will inaugurate the stage. Two performances of The Sleeping Beauty are scheduled for June 18 and 19, both at 6:00 pm. Tickets for all three shows are available at https://buy.tututix.com/brasscityballet.

The construction of the stage was funded by the Watertown Foundation, ION Bank Foundation, and with the support of Oxford Lumber, EG Home, and parent volunteers, the stage quickly grew from an idea into a reality. “This is truly a miracle”, says Artistic Director, Elizabeth Fisk Barisser. “With no performing venues available during the COVID shutdown, we were wondering how we would be able to showcase our dancers at the end of the year. The only solution was to build our own stage outdoors.” Coordination between the Town of Middlebury and Brass City Ballet was necessary, and the link between the two was quickly established. “The arts enhance the quality of life in a community, which becomes an economic driver as well“, says Ms. Barisser. “This stage could be just the beginning of a vibrant and active arts scene in our town.”

BCB’s Associate Artistic Director, Christine Harris, will be working with Betsy Anderson of the Town of Middlebury’s Park and Rec Department to create programming that will benefit the community.
