Christmas Ornament Survives Fire Safety Bonfire
This Year's Woodbury Fire Demo Set Saturday Jan 16th at 6p; Discarded Xmas Trees & All Evergreens Accepted at Fire HQ

WOODBURY -- “As the old joke about finding a five-dollar bill goes,” says Woodbury Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan, “the owner can claim it by forming a line at the door.” She cites this while holding a collectible Christmas tree decoration (photo) that survived last year’s annual fire safety bonfire of discarded Christmas trees. This year's event is set for Saturday Jan 16th, 2021, at 6pm.
Residents can leave their trees and wreaths in the meadow in front of department headquarters, 25 Quassuk Rd anytime up to the hour of the bonfire. Please do not leave the evergreens in the parking lot or roadside, officials said, and remove all metal.
Firefighters ask that spectators remain in cars or observe masked social distancing of at least six-feet apart during the fire safety burn. Unfortunately because of covid-19 concerns, the department will not provide hot cocoa, coffee, cookies, and a tour of the department equipment bays this year. As for the decorative ornament found last year, it survived the drop-off, the blaze, and an earthmover to gleam in the cold ashes where it caught the eye of Bud Neal, a former fire chief in Woodbury. Chief Morgan said the department still has it and will turn it over to whomever left it behind. ###
